Wipro maternity leave policy

What's Wipro India's maternity leave policy?

As of my last update in September 2021, Wipro, the Indian IT company, follows the maternity leave rules set by the Indian government in the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017. Here's a breakdown of the key points in their maternity leave policy:

Duration of Maternity Leave: The law allows a maximum of 26 weeks (or six and a half months) for maternity leave, covering time both before and after childbirth.

Leave Before Delivery: Pregnant employees can take up to eight weeks of leave before their expected delivery date.

Leave After Delivery: After giving birth, employees can take up to 18 weeks (about four and a half months) of maternity leave.

Maternity Leave Pay: Wipro may offer paid leave during maternity leave. The payment rate might depend on the company's policies and the employee's tenure.

Flexibility: The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act also allows some flexibility. For example, if the employee chooses, she can take an extra month of leave without pay, extending beyond the 26-week leave period.

Some important details about wipro maternity leave policy

Employees at Infosys in India are now eligible for 26 weeks of paid maternity leave for their first two childbirths. They can choose to take 8 weeks (56 calendar days) before the expected due date and 18 weeks (126 calendar days) after the birth. This policy applies to all Infosys locations in India.

In India, maternity benefits are governed by the Maternity Benefit Act, which currently mandates 26 weeks of paid leave among other benefits. Every company covered by this Act follows its guidelines. If a company offers better maternity benefits than those specified in the Act, employees are entitled to those better benefits.

Regarding quitting Infosys after returning from maternity leave, you can resign at any time according to labor laws and your employment contract. Maternity leave doesn't impact your ability to give notice for termination. After returning, you may find yourself on the bench, and if you decide to quit, you might negotiate an early release with supporting health records.

However, if you had signed a bond with the company and decided to leave before completing it, the company has the right to retain its legal rights. Legally, you are allowed to resign after your 26-week maternity break, effective from April 1, 2018.

How much time should you take for your maternity leave?

Take as much time as you both want and can manage, both mentally and financially.

In my case, I had to take six weeks for each of my kids because of having c-sections. Luckily, I had saved up enough vacation time to cover it.

It was tough. I was more than ready to return to work after two weeks, but my obstetrician wouldn't clear me until my six-week post-delivery checkup. My boss, an old-fashioned guy, thought he was being considerate by making me wait.
